How to find cool gadgets for man caves
When asked what do they want to do for father’s day, most men would reply they’ll enjoy being left alone for awhile. This might seem paradoxical, given the family theme of the occasion, but it’s not hard to see how the constant demands associated with being a husband and father could prove draining.
His “cave” is the place a man retreats to when in need of some recharge, to do his “guy” things away from kids that need help with their homework or a wife that keeps reminding him of everyday domestic chores. Needless to say, the man cave needs to be properly equipped to provide an adequate distraction.
Whether it is a big screen TV, a sound system, vintage arcade games with nostalgic value or any of the cool gadgets for man caves they market nowadays, this occasional retreat should be bristling with fun and interesting items to keep the owner interested.
Now, you probably already have anything you require to partake in your interest and hobby — and frankly, we aren’t qualified to give niche advice anyway — but there is a myriad of general purpose gadgets out there promising to make your man cave experience all the sweeter. What are the things to look for when acquiring them?
How we chose the coolest gadgets for man caves
This aspect is, of course, a given. Some big boy’s toys need to be acquired to entertain you and your friends. Both separate activities and group related ones need to be considered here since besides being a retreat, the man cave also serves as the perfect place to congregate with other guys.
There are a lot of gadgets to choose from for both, and a lot of them might work well in all circumstances. Even something as solipsistic as an interior golf set can prove lots of fun for a bunch of friends if coupled with a score board or some sports apps that provide ways to compare each player’s performance in percentages.
There are too many mini-sports courses to count here, but they all have the downside of taking in lots of room for what is essentially only a sports inspired game. You could think outside the box when managing space and go for something like a VR headset.
These come with all sorts of programs now that will allow you to virtually transform your man cave to anything from a baseball court to a firing range. They also have the added benefit of not negatively affecting style (if you’re going for something serious), although they need to be connected to a computer.
While you won’t exactly need to hire an interior designer a man cave that looks well put together will always play its part better than a collection of unrelated stuff placed in a room. After all, looks are always important in giving a feel to a place, and you’re going for atmosphere.
So when choosing gadgets make sure that they somehow fit the general theme of the man cave. You won’t have any problem displaying the latest in gadgetry if the room you’re outfitting already has a modern look to it, or if you wisely acquired enough neon signs as decoration to make it look like something from Blade Runner.
But if you decided to give it a traditional look, like that of a wooden cabin or a dive bar, concentrated around a wooden pool or cards table, a high number of tech gadgets might cause some serious discrepancies. In this case either buy some cabinets to keep them out of sight or simply go for more discreet items.
Keep in mind that the best men’s gadgets reviews rarely take style as a factor in making their analysis, so you’ll have to use your own judgment.
Drink and drink
Whether it is a cup of strong dark coffee or a sophisticated cocktail, drinking and relaxing go hand in hand. You can’t really watch a game or shoot some pool without a cool drink in your hand so make sure the man cave would provide for it.
A sort of fridge or an icebox should be a given, and there are plenty of both for sale, specifically designed to address the needs of social drinkers. The thing to look for in this case wouldn’t be volume as much as cooling speed because there’s always more beer at the store, but you can’t really ensure that your local retailer kept it cool enough to be consumed just when you need it.
A coffee making or cocktail making machine could prove itself as an additional point of interest since it’s always fun to experiment with various recipes of ground coffee or mixed drinks. French roast seems to be particularly popular lately among men who like their coffee more traditional, otherwise you could go for a coffee maker that provides for as many varieties as possible to give your friends something to tinker with.
Practicality and convenience
By this we mean something that would make the activities you plan for more enjoyable or manageable. It could be anything really, from a universal remote control to a beer bottle opener that keeps track of how many caps it had to open.
These are generally small and nifty gadgets under 15, that are well worth every penny both for making your life slightly easier and giving you something to talk about when inviting friends over. Since everything comes in a “smart” form nowadays you’ll have plenty of these to choose from.
You won’t even have to relegate your search to man cave novelty items (if even this category exists); feel free to look for gaming gadgets, camping gadgets, sports and daily use devices for something that might pop up as useful or entertaining for whatever you have in mind.
A darts board that keeps its own score might be nice, or an on-ice beer dispenser if you and your friends particularly enjoy the atmosphere in an Irish pub. A portable alcohol test might also come in handy if there’s a minimum acceptable limit for driving in your state. Really, your imagination is the limit.
